# Proud Indian

> Proud Indian is a volunteer-run NGO in Bengaluru (Bangalore), India, founded on 26 January 2019. Its volunteers, called Optimists, spend weekends with children in Bengaluru's low-income communities: maths and Spoken English classes, art and craft, shared meals, community days and the Kalakriti festival. Anyone aged 18 or over can join, and no experience is needed.

## Weekend volunteering in Bengaluru

Bring a few free hours and some patience; the children bring the rest. Most sessions are at weekends in neighbourhoods across Bengaluru, and no experience is needed.

## Volunteering FAQ

### Who can volunteer with Proud Indian?

Anyone aged 18 or over. You don’t need a teaching background or any experience; patience and turning up matter most.

### Is there a fee to volunteer?

No. Volunteering with Proud Indian is free.

### When are the sessions?

Most are on Saturdays or Sundays. Every session’s date, time and area are listed [above](https://proudindian.ngo/volunteer/#volunteer) and on the [dashboard](https://dash.proudindian.ngo/events).

### How much time do I need to give?

Classes (maths, Spoken English, art and craft) run every week, so we ask class volunteers to come regularly. Drives, Gift a Smile, outings and Kalakriti are one-off days; come when you can.

### Where do sessions happen?

In neighbourhoods in south-east Bengaluru, around Bellandur and Iblur, and at our community centre in Ibbaluru. You get the exact meeting point once you’re approved.

### How do I sign up?

### Do I get a certificate?

On request. Write to hr@proudindian.ngo and we’ll send you a certificate or letter for the hours you’ve volunteered.

### Can I volunteer as an internship?

Yes. Students intern by volunteering on our programmes, and get a letter for their hours at the end. [More about internships](https://proudindian.ngo/volunteer/#internships).

### Can my company or group volunteer together?

Yes. We run volunteering days with companies and groups. Write to connect@proudindian.ngo to plan one.

### Can I help without volunteering?

You can [donate](https://proudindian.ngo/#donate) towards class materials, meals and Kalakriti. Every gift gets an 80G tax receipt by email.

## Programmes

- **Teach (Education)**: Weekend maths and Spoken English classes, and art & craft that gets children talking about their world. (Maths classes, Spoken English, Art & craft)
- **Feed (Nutrition)**: Nutrition drives and shared meals, because nobody learns hungry. (Nutrition drives, Shared meals)
- **Paint (Kalakriti)**: Once a year, Kalakriti gives children from our communities one full day of arts and culture, with a stage of their own and an audience cheering them on. Kalakriti 3.0 was on 20 Sep 2026: 1 day, 500 children, 8 events, 200 volunteers. Events: Singing, Solo dance, Group dance, Painting, Pot painting, Fancy dress, Clay modelling, Rangoli.
- **Gather (Community)**: Days that bring everyone together: Gift a Smile, outings for the children, and volunteering days with companies that pitch in. (Gift a Smile, Outings, Volunteering days)

## Donate

Your gift buys class materials and art supplies, food for our drives and festival lunches, and Gift a Smile gifts and outings. It also helps put on Kalakriti each year.
