What happens

Small groups and a whiteboard.

Classes meet every week, so we ask class volunteers to come regularly. Groups stay small, so every child gets called up to the board sooner or later.

  • Maths class

Times tables and sums on the whiteboard, worked through in small groups, so every child gets a turn.

  • Spoken English

Children practise speaking English and speaking up in front of the group. The classes run at our community centre in Ibbaluru.

  • Art & craft

Social-awareness art classes: Optimists teach a topic through pictures, then the children make posters about it and explain what they understood, which builds their confidence in speaking.

  • Special sessions

Some sessions bring the outside world in: disaster preparedness, caring for older relatives, and a postmaster who left every child with a postcard to send.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Who can teach with Proud Indian?

Anyone aged 18 or over. You don’t need a teaching background or any experience; patience and turning up matter most.

What would I teach?

Maths, Spoken English or art and craft, in small groups, alongside the Optimists who teach the class every week.

How much time do I need to give?

Classes run every week, so we ask class volunteers to come regularly.

When and where are the classes?

Most are on Saturdays or Sundays, in neighbourhoods around Bellandur and Iblur and at our community centre in Ibbaluru. Every class’s date, time and area is listed above and on the dashboard, and you get the exact meeting point once you’re approved.

How do I sign up?

Register on the dashboard, tap “Show interest” on a class, and come along once you’re approved.

What are the rules with the children?

Every session with children starts with a short briefing, nobody is ever alone with a child, and please don’t photograph the children yourself. Read all the safeguarding rules.

Do I get a certificate?

On request. Write to hr@proudindian.ngo and we’ll send you a certificate or letter for the hours you’ve volunteered.

Can my company run a class with you?

Yes. A team can run a maths, Spoken English or art and craft session with the children on a Saturday or Sunday. See the volunteering-day formats.

Can I help without volunteering?

You can donate towards class materials and art supplies. Every gift gets an 80G tax receipt by email.
